This is so Holmes. The thoughts, the self improvement by emulating Watson, the need to still preserve his ego, the temptation of easy solutions. Honestly this is all the stuff I read into him because of Doyle's stubborn refusal to write in Holmes ' voice. Even when Doyle does a narrative, it is with the understanding that he is being read by the public and it is grandiose. This, what youve written, is true Holmes. And I miss it. Thank you.
